Eduardo Braulio dos Santos A.K.A Eduardo Aesthic is an independent curator and writer, his practices deal with the themes of blackness, identity, colonialism and diaspora. Currently, he is a co-chair a Think Tanks Arts and Culture Network, and also he is curating a group show set for June. his dream is to curate in short and write academically and socially.

PD: Please describe yourself, your practice and aspiration?

EA: I am a polymath with an interest in the intersection between the art of politics and artistic expression.

My practice to date has consisted of convening panel discussions on the themes like blackness, identity, colonialism and diaspora. Currently, I am a co-chair a Think Tanks Arts and Culture Network, and I am also curating a group show set for June. I want to curate in short, write academically and socially.

PD: The idea of home for many people mean the place where the hurt belonged, is that notion of home has any link with childhood to you? Please guide us to the place that you call home?

EA: I am Kalunda and Londner. My heart is not split I am moreover a hybrid of both cultures pressures.

One I am comfortable with but, my name before that my skin alerts them to my difference. The second was born in, but am not of that place, yet I still belong. Home is where peace resides I am at Home with that.

PD: Who are your domestic legends? Please describe the relationship that you can recall with it.

EA: Growing up my mother would tell me stories before bed. Of places I knew, old parables on good conduct, comedies tragedies. It is a memory no longer alive, of places that both existed but is no longer.

PDYour practice encompasses visual arts and curatorial. Please elaborate on what role they play on your process and your approach with each one?

EA: My practice encompasses the visual arts and the art of conversation. The curatorial of these symbiotic but not the less separate arts, I am still in the process of negotiating.

PD: Please take us through your creative process and how different places may affect or influence
your work?

EA: The environment I am in influenced my work as I write associatively, I collect impressions and perform these in a written form or via a panel. More so now thinking about showing others work I think in three dimensions, in terms of landscape and site. With that said my practice is based on relationship building with a goal of creating something from my perspective that is sensitive to the work.

PD: Using your past, present or on-going projects as examples, please tell us more about the themes you are dealing with, your interests and how it gives emphasis to your work?

EA: I am currently working on a series of talks and a show, planning future shows also. They are concerned with such themes as policy, arts advocacy, the place of the individual within the system.

Development of self etc. I am also a reader of aesthetics the process of feeling on a wide base is central to procession and results. My wider interests are varied they can range from partaking in communities to works of fiction, to challenging my artistic pallet.

PD: What are the iconography has the most significant meaning to you and has influenced directly or indirectly you practice? Please share it with us?

EA: There is not one set theme, more like a set of considerations like ocular perception how to directly influence another’s viewpoint intellectually and perceptively.

PD: Could define your practice using four descriptive keywords:

EA: Hybrid. Ocular. Questioning. Politics.

PD: Please do share with us any thought, worries, suggestions or criticism regarding the state of art in the world by emphasizing the Angola art scene?

EA: The Angolan art scene is small, but its relative size means that there is more to do. In terms of I don’t believe in educating taste more, I feel that the work must speak for itself, I want a gallery scene that is truly owned by Angolans. I am the skills to create to be spread widely, age is no impediment. Telling our own stories, born off the land. With an authentic voice is what is needed.

PD: Is there anything relevant that you would like to share with us, by taking on the cultural Angolan context?

EA: It is a work in progress.
