INVITED CURADOR 2021 Associate Professor of the Postgraduate Programme at the Graduate School of Architecture (University of Johannesburg), António Tomás will be the Guest Curator of the 2nd edition of the LUUANDA residency.PhD in Anthropology from Columbia University was a study on Refracted Governmentality: space, politics, and social structure in contemporary Luanda, he has conducted extensive fieldwork in Luanda focusing specifically on the modalities of urban transformation from the city’s inception during Portuguese rule to the post-colonial period.The main findings of these research projects are at the core of his forthcoming book, “In the Skin of the City: Spatial Transformation in Luanda” (by Duke University Press). He is the author of the biography of the Guinean nationalist Amílcar Cabral, Amílcar Cabral: The Life of a Reluctant Nationalist (Hurst, 2021).António Tomás has collaborated with several higher education institutions such as École Superieure des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and Sciences Po, both in France, Makerere University in Uganda and in South Africa with Stellenbosch University and University of Cape Town.
