OPEN CALL LUUANDA 2022

The application for the 3rd edition of LUUANDA Artist Residency, which runs from 1 June to 31 July 2022, is now open.

For the 3rd edition, the artists will be challenged to work under the theme UTOPIA GENERATIONS, through a varied programme of activities. Taken from the work of the same name by Pepetela, the theme of this edition reflects on the past stories of exile and the present of diaspora.
The cycle of residencies is dedicated to post-colonial studies and intends to constitute a broad and diversified forum for the discussion of the historical legacies of the independences, of the utopias and realities constructed by the anti-colonial struggles and the post-independence national constructions, not forgetting the civil wars that followed, in a broader geo-political context, their end, the most recent decades of economic openness and globalisation, and, finally, in this artistic context, the way in which these histories and memories, their celebrations and problematisations, are examined by contemporary artistic production in Angola.

The artists are invited to reflect on the above theme in order to create new perspectives and approaches without compromising their artistic practices, through research and direct contact with the city of Luanda and its still living places from a latent past.

The programme is funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and aims to support the international mobility of artists born and resident in the PALOP countries, in the areas of visual arts (including image and visual arts) and curatorship.
