OPEN CALL LUUANDA 2021 The application period for the 2nd edition of LUUANDA Artist Residency will be open from 19 April to 30 June 2021.In this edition, the artists will be challenged to work under the theme “LOST BORDERS”, through a varied programme of activities. The theme taken from the work of the Angolan writer José Eduardo Agualusa, is inscribed in a globalized fictional universe, the multiplicity of identities originated after the Angolan independence and the importance of this reflection for the creation of works that are inscribed in a place between the real and the fictional. Therefore, we encourage participating artists to reflect on the theme with emphasis on the relationship between humans and nature, breaking the boundaries beyond their habitat, proposing new real, fictional or speculative approaches. We invite artists to critically question the concepts of borders, submitting new possibilities and approaches to look, position and act in urban or non-urban spaces in an ecological and sustainable way.In parallel, a deep and inclusive analysis of this very concept (Frontiers) will be necessary, in order to subjectively highlight what current times offer, reflecting on the catastrophic impact of our actions on the planet and the inevitable widespread intervention on our part (humans) for a resolution. The programme is funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and aims to support the international mobility of artists born and resident in the PALOP countries, in the areas of visual arts (including image and visual arts) and curatorship.
